Indian Visa Rules
Visa is the most important piece of document for an international traveler while entering in India. It is mandatory for all the foreign nationals to posses a valid passport and Indian Visa as in a legal permission from their respective country before coming here. A foreign national who wants to come to India can apply for Indian Visa in numerous Indian High Commission offices located in their respective countries. This entire process comes under the Ministry of External Affairs of India. There is no provision of 'Visa on Arrival' in India.
Except for the citizens of Nepal and Bhutan, every international traveler needs to have a valid Indian visa. Whereas nationals of Maldives can be in India without the visa for a period of 90 days.
- These permits can be acquired from the Ministry of External Affairs or Indian Embassies abroad.
- Every foreigner who wishes to enter India must have a valid visa affix on his/her passport.
- Persons of Indian origin, PIO and his families can have 10 year of visa duration
- An Indian tourist visa is valid for a period of 180 days, extendable under special requests or circumstances.
- Special permission is required to visit the North-eastern states due to security reasons.
- All the forms attached to your visas and passport should be thoroughly checked, any blank or wrong information provided can result in deportation from the India immediately on finding the fault.
- Always carry documents of your identity proof of your nationality like driving license and a Xerox copy of the visa and passport.
- On leaving India, a foreign nationalist is require to submit certificate of registration to the Registration Officer.
- The change of Visa status from one category to another is normally not allowed, but can be considered only under extreme circumstances from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Foreigner’s Division, Jaiselmer House, 26, Man Singh Road, New Delhi.
- Any one coming to India from a country known for yellow fever shall produce Quarantine certificate.
