Nizamuddin Dargah Delhi
Nizamuddin Dargah is an ancient Muslim shrine located in south Delhi near Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Built by Firuz Shaa Tughlaq, The place is home to the ‘dargah’ of Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya that attracts Muslims and Sufi enthusiasts from world over to visit and pay their homage here. Other monuments that stand here are Jamat Khana Masjid, Bai-Kodaldai’s tomb, Jahanara tomb, Aamir Khusrau’s tomb, Mirza Ghalib, Kalan masjid, Khan-I-Jahan Tilangani’s tomb, Ataga Khan’s tomb, Chaunsath Khamba, Lal Mahal, Khan-I-khanan’s tomb, and Barapula.
The architecture of the dargah consists of big verandhas, arches, domes and minarets on the roof mostly in green color.
Nizamuddin dargah is most visited during evening prayers held everyday especially on Thursdays. When music lovers gather here for qawaallis and special muslim festivals like Eid, ‘Urs’ of Hazrat Nizamuddin. It is mandatory to wear decent clothing and covering head before entering the premises.
