Sis Ganj Gurudwara Delhi
Sis Ganj Gurudwara was built in the fond memory of Guru Tej Bahadur who was beheaded mercilessly by the Mughuls in 1675. It is located in Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. It took around 4000 people to participate in the construction of the gurudwara. This is the ancient most gurudwara and highest place of worship for Sikhs. It is made of white marble and has huge complex, domes and water body for religious purposes. After the guru was martyred, a century later a devotee named Baba Baghel Singh found this place and built a gurudwara. One can still witness the trunk of the tree in the gurudwara complex even today where Guru Tej Bahadur was killed.
It is considered as good omen and a ritual to take bath in the gurudwara pond where Guru used to take his daily bath during his imprisonment days. Everyday thousands of pilgrims gather here in hall to feed on guru’s ‘langar’ prepared in the very own kitchen of the gurudwara. The place is of historical significance that makes it so popular and frequented with people from world over to pay homage and seek blessings of the late Guru who died for the sake of humanity.
